I don’t hard boil eggs enough to remember what’s the best recipe or approach, so after trying various methods to hard boil eggs, I found this the easiest and most reliable…

  1. Place eggs in a pan so you have a single layer of eggs—don’t stack.
  2. Cover eggs with water so they are an inch or two submerged.
  3. With pan uncovered, bring water with eggs to a boil.
  4. Turn off heat
  5. Leave pot and eggs on the still warm burner for 15 minutes.
  6. Replace hot water with cold water to cool off the eggs and store the now hard boiled eggs in fridge.

That’s it! The hard boiled eggs come out fully cooked, but not overcooked.

TIP: How to tell if an egg is hard boiled

Take the egg and try to spin it. If the egg won’t spin or wobbles, it’s raw. If it spins, it’s a hard boiled egg.
