Only in the final scene does she awaken. Lucy is 'kissed' awake by Clara (giving her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation). Seeing death beside her she starts screaming gutturally, in striking contrast to her behaviour throughout the rest of the film. This entirely new response to the world signifies that she has finally woken from her sleep, that she is alive again and is experiencing life in all its potential intensity and vitality. (The screams also sound just like those of a new-born baby, symbolising her rebirth). The prince's act woke her, just as the proximity to death woke the protagonist in his beloved short story.
The client, having failed to wake himself after a lifetime of nothingness, chose to sacrifice himself to save Lucy, to save another from the life that he had endured; and he is thereby her prince.
(An alternative interpretation is that he inadvertently became Lucy's prince. It is clear that he and Clara expected him to die at the end, but he was perhaps risking death in order to wake himself up from his own 'living sleep' (an overdose being a substitute for being in a near-miss car accident). On this interpretation he still serves symbolically as Lucy's prince, even if he did not deliberately save her.)

Amazing collection of sci-fi films coming out this year. I'm most excited by Ridley Scott's Prometheus--an Alien spinoff.
