- He walked to the freeway entrance and held up a sign that said, "Traffic is bad. Spend 2 hours or pay me $10 and get there in 20 minutes." He said the first day he was picked up within 15 minutes. When he got dropped off, he walked to the other side, held up his sign and got paid to go back the other way too. On a typical day he makes 2 to 3 round trips during the morning commute rush hour and 3 - 5 round trips during the evening rush hour. If there is an accident and traffic is really slow, his price doubles. He clears $100 - $300 a day sitting in a car so others can get to work and home faster!

- [Hitler, the future Fuhrer] was only obeying orders when he shaped his moustache into its tightly-clipped style....He was instructed to do so in order that it would fit under the respirator masks, introduced in response to British mustard gas attacks....Had that order never been issued, the tyrant who brought most of Europe to its knees would be remembered as a man with a large Prussian moustache.

- Phishing is remarkably effective. Bear in mind that the users in this study were told in advance to expect a mixture of real and fake websites, so these results may actually be better than real world performance, as hard as that is to believe. Here's a detailed breakdown of the test sites used in the study, along with the percent of users who were unable to correctly identify whether the site was real or a spoof:
- Starbucks' Pushy New Neighbor « Random Technology Agitator
- In late February, the wireless-community builder launched a marketing campaign called “Fonbucks,” giving away Wi-Fi routers to Starbucks’ neighbors around the country. The idea was to get Fon routers close to Starbucks customers trying to connect to a wireless network, giving them a choice between $2-a-day Fon Wi-Fi access or $10 Starbucks T-Mobile access. The incentive for Starbucks’ neighbors is a cut of the action: $1 for them and $1 for Fon. The promotion helped Fon hand out 6,800 routers in less than a month.

- Distinguishing Science and Pseudoscience
- The word "pseudo" means fake. The surest way to spot a fake is to know as much as possible about the real thing—in this case, about science itself. Knowing science does not mean simply knowing scientific facts (such as the distance from earth to sun, the age of the earth, the distinction between mammal and reptile, etc.) It means understanding the nature of science—the criteria of evidence, the design of meaningful experiments, the weighing of possibilities, the testing of hypotheses, the establishment of theories, the many aspects of scientific methods that make it possible to draw reliable conclusions about the physical universe.

- Researchers 'seed' ocean with iron to soak up CO2 - Independent Online Edition > Climate Change
- A research ship is about to begin a project around the Galapagos Islands, in the Pacific Ocean, that will highlight the importance of marine plankton in the fight against global warming and climate change....Waterbird II, the research ship of an eco-restoration organisation called Planktos, is on a "voyage of recovery" to "seed" the oceans with the iron in the hope of stimulating blooms of phytoplankton, the microscopic marine plants that soak up the energy of the Sun to convert carbon dioxide into organic matter....The organisers of the venture hope to shine a spotlight on the critical role that plankton plays in maintaining the carbon dioxide balance of the oceans and the atmosphere with the help of several tons of iron dust....Scientists have long postulated that it may be possible to speed up the rate at which the oceans soak up atmospheric CO2 by stimulating the growth of plankton in the oceans with added iron - an essential nutrient for photosynthesis.
