This video documents the practice by some baboon tribes in Saudi Arabia of essentially kidnapping feral puppies and raising them as pets and protectors.

Would such a practice or behavior require human-like intelligence? It seems like the baboons would have to “decide” that the long-term benefit of raising a puppy over the course of weeks and months outweighs the immediate, presumably instinctual, benefit of eating the puppy when captured.

That blows my mind.
