Elon Musk interviewed by Kara Swisher
Kara Swisher is a force of nature. Her interview with Elon Musk, another force of nature, yields some manageable storms.
Kara’s personality and interview style is to kibitz during the interview, and this has the wonderful effect of throwing subjects off-message. Quick-witted Kara takes advantage of these off-balance moments to get at thoughts and feelings the subject hadn’t planned to share. I can’t say I’d like being interviewed by Kara, but I sure love watching and hearing the results.
With Elon Musk, Kara began by pressing him about his Twitter habits, particularly around his criticism of journalists given the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. As Elon answered, Kara kibitzed that Elon was “thin-skinned.” Elon’s response was immediate and steady: He accepts valid criticism, but won’t tolerate lies. The journalists he criticized were dishonest, and he called out their lies. Elon said he readily accepts valid, fact-based criticism—he’s an engineer after all; there’s no arguing with gravity. But bad journalism must be exposed.
That was only the beginning…The rest of the hour-plus long interview is well worth a listen.
