Project Unbreakable ~ Survivors of sexual abuse begin healing
Project Unbreakable ~ Melissa Harris-Perry mentioned this project on her show recently, saying it was a powerful healing tool for victims of rape and sexual abuse, and the project deserved attention.
Photographer Grace Brown, who created Project Unbreakable, began with a simple idea: Create photographic portraits of abuse and rape victim while they hold up a poster containing words their abuser or rapist used against them. Some of the words are graphic, but most are threats of various sorts that attempt to take any remaining power or control away from the victim. The video below goes into more detail about the project.
“If you are a survivor of sexual abuse who would like to participate in this project, please email me at projectunbreakable(at)gmail(dot)com. Please know that Project Unbreakable does not discriminate against varying degrees of sexual abuse or gender. Anyone is welcome.”
