So sad. I keep hearing in reports that Erin Moran had a rough time after Happy Days ended. Perhaps it’s morbid, but I’m going to learn more about that later…For now I’m just sad. CBS News is reporting that Erin died from complications related to stage 4 cancer. Source: The Read more…

This fact boggles my mind:
Nearly 20 minutes of almost every hour of TV programming is commercials.
Put another way:
Nearly a third of my TV viewing time is commercials.
It drives me away from network and cable television programming and toward pay sites like Netflix and Amazon Prime.
It’s not that the advertisers sponsoring these programs don’t deserve the money.
The advertisers simply don’t deserve so much of my time.

Top of the Lake is a 7-part BBC crime drama staring Elisabeth Moss (of Mad Men). The story begins with a school girl named Tui attempting to kill herself in a frigid New Zealand lake. She’s spotted walking into the lake by a teacher and taken to the school nurse, who discovers that 12-year-old Tui is 4-5 months pregnant. (more…)
Bumped into this interview of actress Alice Eve on Conan that just charmed my socks off. I’m not familiar with Alice Eve, but during the interview she demonstrates how she can instantly change from her gorgeous English accent to an American, Los Angeles accent—which includes inserting “like” for commas, or so goes her theory… (more…)
Penn Jillette holds his own against a rather passionate pro gun control panel on the Wendy Williams Show. He brings up some excellent points much ignored by the talking heads in the media. His main argument is that the murders in Newtown were an anomaly, and that if we want to protect children, focus first on more common dangers that kill many more kids, e.g., unprotected swimming pools. Gun control can fit into the effort to protect our kids (my sentiments, not necessarily Jillette’s), but it doesn’t deserve being a top priority. Other dangers kill more kids.

Exactly right! Image captures it all. From the opiate of the masses to this: TV takes a dump in your brain. Perfect. Now I’m gonna go watch American Idol. Great cartoon : occupywallstreet.
When I turned “ON” our VIZIO LCD HDTV, the screen turned blue, displayed the text “No signal,” then shut off. No matter what buttons I pressed on the remote or the VIZIO HDTV itself, when I turned on the TV it automatically shut off. F*CK!
The behavior started when we accidentally switched the input signal to something without an active signal. Simple enough a mistake, except that when the TV senses “no signal” it automatically shuts off.
We tried changing the input right after turning the TV on, but the TV would not respond to either the remote nor the buttons on the side of the TV. It appears that when the VIZIO HDTV does not sense a valid signal, the stupidly programmed TV automatically shuts off.
The solution is simple, but we didn’t find in on the VIZIO site…. (more…)
